John Hampton has practiced law in the Dallas area for over 30 years. He focuses his practice on all aspects of business, estate, retirement and elder planning. John has always given his clients clear and straightforward advice on complex areas of law and the difficult situations in which we find ourselves from time to time. He thinks that good lawyers make the complexities of the law as clear as possible for clients.
John has had broad legal experiences throughout his career that he draws on in his legal planning practice today. A long career as a civil litigator has given him an awareness of legal issues and situations that can likely lead to the court house and avoid them. He understands the processes of the court room, arbitration and mediation and uses the experience gained there to advise his clients. He operated a title company for more than 20 years and has handled many real estate, oil and gas transactions, bankruptcies, divorces, probates and guardianships. He has also run businesses as President and CEO where he obtained practical knowledge of the day- to-day challenges and pressures faced by owners. These experiences give him well-rounded insight into the implications of the decisions individuals, families, business owners, trustees and executors must make with his help and advice.
John is a member of the State Bar of Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas Sections on Business law, Environment & Natural Resources, Insurance Law, Corporate Counsel, Intellectual Property Law, and Real Estate, Probate & Trust law. He is licensed to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern District of Texas, the Texas Supreme Court and the United States Tax Court. John is also a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
John holds a Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University where he received the A.S.Hansen Consulting Actuary Award for Deferred Compensation Taxation, the Jessup Award for International Law and the Meyers Middleton Award. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College.
John lives with his wife and two cavaliers in Dallas, Texas. His wife is an educator and his two daughters live and work in Plano, Texas, and Washington, D.C.
